Abujhmarh

Abujhmarh Of District Narayanpur

Narayanpur boasts a distinct feature in the form of the Abujhmarh region, characterized by its vast expanse of hills and forests, which serves as the dwelling place of the Abujhmaria tribe. This area is often referred to as the core of Narayanpur, both in terms of its geographical location and cultural significance. It is recognized as one of the least explored and understood regions in India, with the Indian government refraining from conducting official surveys for many years, thus allowing it to remain largely untouched by modern development.

The Abujhmarias follow a unique way of life, language, and social customs. They engage in shifting cultivation, commonly known as slash-and-burn agriculture, and their lifestyle is intricately linked with the surrounding forests. The region has been designated as a Scheduled Area, affording it special legal protections aimed at safeguarding the rights and traditions of its indigenous population.
