History

Narayanpur boasts a long and fascinating history that traces back to ancient times. Situated within the expansive Bastar kingdom, the region has been home to indigenous tribes for millennia. Throughout history, various tribal dynasties, notably the Kakatiya dynasty, governed Bastar, including Narayanpur, for numerous centuries.

Although the area was eventually incorporated into the British Indian Empire, its rugged terrain and the resistance of local tribal communities kept it relatively autonomous from colonial influence. Today, many traditional practices, governance systems, and ways of life persist in the remote corners of Narayanpur, particularly among the Abujhmarias.
